Is there a better phrase to describe what is happening in the church today than the one Jesus warns us to watch out for: “the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod”? Lord, preserve us.

The interpretative footnotes in the NIV Study Bible are 🤯. About Matt 25:34-40, it says, “There is no hint of merit here, for God gives out of grace, not debt.” That may be true at the level of doctrine, but it is obviously wrong about the text at hand.

I used to think it was all about the fear that God was watching, but really Psalm 139 is such a beautiful picture of our longing to be known. And it expresses a trust that we are known.
